Design of transmission accuracy of the involute cylindrical gear-worm gear system under large temperature difference based on FE method

Abstract

Involute cylindrical gear transmission and worm gear drives are mechanical devices widely used in transmission mode. The design of precision not only directly affects the accuracy of the transmission, but also affects the cost and machining process. Since the system works under large temperature difference, the deformation of the system would be very different from the common condition and the accuracy of every component will be influenced. In this paper, the finite element analysis method is adopted to the structural analysis of thermal deformation. The main factors affecting transmission error of the gear-worm system mainly considered in this paper are: Center distance, tooth thickness variation, radial tooth-to-tooth composite variation, the bearing clearance and so on at the extreme temperature of -50℃ & 70℃. The results can be used to calculate the backlash increment caused by the temperature difference. Eventually, with further inspection and gradual rectification, the design precision is obtained which not only meet the requirements of backlash but also make no stuck in the system.
