Abstract

After as-cast ZL401 alloy was aged at low temperatures, the relationship of damping capacities and real part of complex modulus of the alloys with strain amplitudes, frequencies and temperatures were investigated by low-frequency internal friction technique. The comparison between damping capacities of as-cast and aged ZL401 alloy were also made. The experiment results showed that the damping capacities of ZL401 alloy were dependent on strain amplitudes and frequencies, and increased with the increasing of the temperature. The reverse change tendency of damping capacity with frequency was observed for low temperatures and high temperatures. As the vibrating frequency decreased and temperature increased, the real part of complex modulus of ZL401 alloy increased. It is concluded that the damping capacities of ZL401 alloy is result from the superposition of interface damping and dislocation damping, the damping capacities at ambient temperature was owed to dislocation damping, while the damping capacities at high temperatures is attributed to interface damping.
