Abstract

Focusing on the clean-up tool path generation for multi-patch solid model, a new efficient and robust searching approach is presented in this paper. The multi-patch solid model is considered as an integrated object other than dealing with surfaces on the solid model. The initial points are selected on the part surface in the physical domain, and then the points are converted into the parametric domain to determine the search center and the search direction. After that, the search operation is carried out in the parametric domain, while the cutter-center point is calculated in the physical domain. Finally, a cutter-center curve of the clean-up tool path is fitted with all the searched points. In this paper, some illustrative examples are provided and the results show that the method is feasible and efficient.
