Abstract
A type of TiAl based alloy with a high Nb content was developed through hot compressive tests. The results show that the alloy with fully lamellae microstructure has higher 0.2% proof strength than those with duplex microstructure at high temperature, but maximum compressive rate is inverse. Microstructure evolution was investigated via OM and TEM. The oxide-matrix interface has been studied in terms of microstructure features as well as the compositions of oxide products using SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction. Three separated zones of oxidation surface and a continuous Nb enrich phase were formed. The addition of high Nb to TiAl based alloys forms a layer concentrated Nb to alert the oxidation by promoting growth of an Al concentrated layer.
