Abstract

The characteristics of a hot-rolled near β titanium alloy Ti-7333 were investigated, including the micro-texture components, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior and variant selection (VS) of α phase. It is found that the microstructure and texture inhomogeneity exist, and the dominant deformation texture is confirmed as the αbcc-fiber component of {112} 〈110〉. Two different mechanisms, discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX), dominate the DRX process. Various patterns of dislocations are observed in β matrix, including dislocation tangles, dislocation arrays and dislocation nets. α variants with an acicular morphology are observed in β matrix and hold the Burgers orientation relationship (BOR) with respect to β matrix. Dislocations have a significant selection effect on α variants, which accounts for the various angled combinations of α variants.
