Abstract

Calculation of weight of entities in ontologies is valuable as it facilitates the searching, ranking, conflicts solving and elements removing problem of ontologies. Current weight calculation methods just consider the structure properties of ontology. We argue that weight of entities in ontology should be changed along with the using of ontology, similar with human's knowledge. In this paper, we propose a novel weight calculation method, called usage-based weight calculation method, it takes usage information and structure properties of ontologies into consideration. Usage-based weight calculation method firstly transforms the ontology into a weighted graph, then uses justifications of reasoning tasks to update weight, finally, a weight pervasion algorithm is used to compute the final weight. We also present a demonstration of the usage-based weight calculation method to illustrate its effectiveness.
