Abstract
Polystyrene (PS) grafted silica nanoparticles (PS-g-Silica) were preparaed by the anionic copolymerization of methacryloxyl propyl modified silica nanoparticles (MAMSN) and styrene initiated by n-butyl lithium (BL). The effect of the amount of BL on the conversion of styrene (C), percentage of grafting (PG), and the relative molecular mass (Mn) of PSs(PSnand PSg) were discussed. It was found that larger relative molecular masses of PS and higher conversion and percentage of grafting of styrene could be obtained with the proposed method compared with radical polymerizations.
