Abstract

Quality of Service (QoS) support for traffic plays an important role in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). In WSNs, traffic is usually a mix of time-sensitive packets and reliabilitydemanding packets. Hence, admission control regardless of the characteristics of packets is not efficient. In this paper, taking both delay and reliability into account, we propose a novel admission control algorithm for real-time traffic and a fairnessaware rate control algorithm for non-real-time traffic. Leveraging this proposed scheme, the incoming traffic of WSNs can be regulated so that the whole network can work at an optimal point. Our simulation results and analysis show that our scheme can effectively satisfy the QoS requirements and achieve high channel utilization at the same time.
