Abstract

This work proposes a reconfigurable antenna array with integrated radiation and scattering modulation. By controlling the PIN diode states on a ladder-shaped patch element, a 180° phase difference can be generated between the radiation mode and the scattering mode. A 4 × 4 array is formed using the aforementioned element. Group Search Optimizer (GSO) algorithm is utilized in this paper to obtain an optimal phase distribution for the array. The array exhibits a peak gain of 16.25 dBi in the radiation mode, and a RCS reduction in the frequency range of 8 - 24 GHz in the scattering mode. The layout of the coding metasurface obtained by the GSO algorithm can result in a more than 5 dB monostatic RCS reduction in the frequency band of 8 - 14GHz.
