Abstract

A planar dual circularly polarized (dual-CP) wide-angle scanning phased array is proposed, which covers the WiFi communications bands of 5.7-5.9 GHz. The unit cell is composed of the radiation patches, metal cavity, and four L-shape metal walls. The L-shape metal walls and metal cavity are utilized to feed the radiation patch. Simultaneously, the metal cavity is used to suppress surface waves in order to expand the coverage of beam scanning. Sequential rotation is employed to reduce the axial ratio (AR) during scanning while forming the 2x2 subarray, which serves as a building block to build the 8x8 phased array. The phased array can achieve beam scanning from -45° to 45° with AR ≤ 3dB in the operating band (5.7-5.9GHz).
