Abstract

A frequency reconfigurable patch antenna using 19 reed switches to connect the patch with the ground plane is proposed. Compared with other controlling methods, using reed switches could avoid the need of placing bias and control lines in the vicinity of the radiating elements and the attendant impacts on the antenna radiation performance. Simulated results show that the antenna can be reconfigured to operate in the frequency range from 1.7 GHz to 2.7 GHz. Two working cases of the antenna (resonate at 2.05 GHz and 2.45 GHz) are studied and presented to illustrate the feasibility of this method.
