Abstract

In our opinion, we can offer an algorithm that is better than that of Ref. 5 in detecting MAC layer misbehavior. Section 1 of the full paper discusses the detection of MAC layer misbehavior; its core is that we do three things: (1) we list some possible ways in which some nodes, for gaining unfair advantage, obviate the provisions in the protocol; (2) we focus on the manipulation of backoff parameters; (3) we discuss the deficiencies of past research in the scenarios of WSNs. Section 2 discusses our distributed statistical detection algorithm; its core is that we do two things: (1) we discuss two different monitoring patterns (continuous pattern and random pattern) in the detection process; (2) our algorithm adopts an energy-saving election scheme that can suppress the colluding nodes in the WSNs. The simulation results, which are given in Figs. 2 through 5, show preliminarily that our algorithm is indeed better than that of Ref. 5 and that it succeeds in detecting the MAC layer misbehavior of some colluding nodes in both continuous and random monitoring patterns and achieves good performance in terms of hit ratio and average run length.
