Abstract
To improve the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation performance of sensor arrays under the condition of a limited scale, this study proposes high-order acoustic sensors (HOASs) to comprise novel arrays. Based on phase mode theory, HOASs can extract high-order acoustic information from the signals received by scalar sensors uniformly distributed on a circular aperture inside. A multidimensional signal structure similar to that of acoustic vector sensors is thus obtained via a simple and convenient physical structure. On the basis of such structure, the signal model of a high-order acoustic sensor array (HOASA) is constructed, and the MUSIC algorithm is adopted for the simulation analysis of the performance of super-resolution DOA estimation. Results indicate that the HOASA achieves better source resolution and DOA estimation than vector sensor arrays under the same conditions.
