Abstract
Commercial space application satellites have developed rapidly in recent years. Hall thrusters,as the most commonly used electric thrusters in such satellites, require propellants that balance performance, cost, and other factors. Based on the current development status of commercial space application satellites and the application of gaseous, liquid, and solid propellants in Hall thrusters, propellant demand trends for these thrusters are reviewed. First, the demands for Hall thrusters in commercial space application satellites are analyzed. The current development status of Hall thrusters is then summarized. Subsequent categorization and summary of physical properties and performance parameters of various propellants used in Hall thrusters are conducted. Finally, future trends in propellant requirements for Hall thrusters in commercial space application satellites are projected, and research recommendations based on five aspects—thruster power, lifetime, propellant cost,in-situ resource utilization, and development of new technologies—are provided. These aim to support the application of low-cost,high-efficiency Hall thrusters in commercial space application satellites.
