Abstract

Titanium alloys are widely used in machining the key components for aeroengine. The microstructural alterations induced by thermo-mechanical stresses impelled the forming of a surface metamorphic layer on the machined surface. The microstructural alterations have a great influence on the physical and mechanical properties of the workpiece. Thus, studying of the microstructural alterations of machined surface is significant to improve performance and reliability of aeroengine. The research progress of surface microstructure in machining titanium alloys is reviewed from three aspects: Formation mechanism of surface metamorphic layer, influence law of process factors on surface microstructure, simulation and prediction of microstructure. The possible perspectives of future work for microstructural alterations in machining titanium alloys are also put forward.
