Abstract
To clarify the different propagation modes of detonation waves in an annular channel and obtain the critical conditions for the stable propagation of detonation waves,a numerical simulation was conducted us⁃ ing the mixture of C2H4+3O2+3N2 at 300 K under various channel curvatures and initial pressures(100,60,20 kPa). The results indicate that with a fixed channel width, when the dimensionless inner diameter ri/λa>14 (λa represents the average cell width),the detonation wave propagates stably in the annular channel. When ri/λa≤ 14,the decoupling and re-ignition phenomena occurs, and the detonation wave transitions to an unstable mode. In the unstable mode, the normal velocity of the wave front is decreased to as low as 50% of the C-J velocity near the inner wall, while near the outer wall, the normal velocity remains unaffected, staying above 80% of the C-J velocity.
