Abstract

A tunable elastic support and dry friction damper, combining the C-shape elastic support and piezoelectric ceramic control, was designed and its vibration reduction tests were carried out. The basic mechanism of the damper was introduced. Then a brand new type damper with simpler and compact structure and convenient control performance was presented. Its effectiveness on reducing rotor vibrations was experimentally verified, and the pressing force between moving and stationary disks was tested experimentally. The experimental results show that the tunable C-shape elastic support and dry friction damper can significantly reduce the vibration of a rotor system. The maximum reduction of vibration amplitude is more than 70% at the critical speed. The optimum pressing force is 35-50 N.
