Abstract

In order to clarify the impact of channel curvature and dilution ratio on the propagation in a curved channel considering the lateral expansion on the inner side, this numerical study has been conducted utilizing a mixture of ethylene, oxygen, and nitrogen. The results indicate that either the decrease in channel curvature or the increase in dilution ratio will result in propagation instability. When the detonation wave propagates stably, two reflection modes, i.e.. Mach reflection and regular reflection, are obtained near the outer wall. Whether the detonation wave propagates stably in the semi-confined curved channel mainly depends on the ratio of the inner radius (ri) to the average cell width (Formula presented). When the non-dimensional inner radius exceeds 17.5. i.e.. (Formula presented) the detonation wave maintains stable propagation. When (Formula presented) the detonation wave propagates in the weakly unstable mode. When (Formula presented) severe decoupling of the detonation wave occurs, and the normal velocity near the inner wall is smaller than 60% of the C-J velocity, representing the highly unstable propagation mode.
