Abstract
Fairwater exposed above a submarine navigating underwater will produce strong flow-induced noise. Combining the SST-SBES turbulence model with the Fwowcs Williams-Hawkings equation, flow-induced noise of the submarine is simulated numerically. The simulation results are compared with the experimental data. Good comparative results reveal the accuracy of the employed numerical method. The computational fluid dynamic (CFD) code Fluent is used to simulate and analyze the variation of the flow-induced noise with different leading edges of the fairwater. The results show that the flow-induced noise can be effectively suppressed by changing the line shape of the leading edge, and sound pressure level can be reduced by 9.3 dB.
