Abstract
Aiming at the problems that, possibility of rotor rotating during estimation process, high demand for hardware and poor estimation precision of present initial rotor position estimation methods for three-stage synchronous starter/generator, according to the working principle of rotory transformer, an initial rotor position estimation method which is based on "injecting at main machine, detecting at main exciter" was analyzed, and the derivation process was given. By injecting rotating high frequency voltage into main machine's stator, the initial rotor position was derived from main exciter's stator current after filtering, coordinate transformation and phase-locked loop tracking. Experimental results show that the proposed method can keep rotor standstill, machine parameters and extra hardwares are not needed. The estimation error is below 2° electrical angle, which satisfies three-stage synchronous machines' need for smooth startup.
